Troubleshooting
The fundamental element of any adequate electrical system is conformity to safety. To meet this, Three D Electric Company employs trained and qualified electricians. Also, your home has undergone a series of inspections and tests, which contain several elements within the electrical system to assure its safe operation.

The following information is for your convenience only, and is not intended to be used as a supplement to any manufacturer’s user’s manual.

Circuit Breaker Panel
The most obvious of your electrical system is the circuit breaker panel which is normally located on an outside garage wall. Although there may be additional sub-panels within your system, these panels contain circuit breakers, which are designed to trip "off" should there be a power overload or other malfunction.

Resetting a Tripped Breaker
A tripped breaker may not necessarily trip to an "off" position; most likely the breaker handle will look out of line with the others.

First, turn off and unplug all electrical items on that circuit (affected area/room(s)), then turn the tripped breaker all the way off and then over to on. This should "reset" the breaker. If this does not work, or the breaker continues to trip, please call the service department.

Note: Before attempting to restore power to a circuit breaker, which has switched off, try to locate the cause of the failure. In most cases, tripped circuit breakers are a result of trying to overload a particular circuit.

GFCI Receptacle
Less obvious is the ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacle. This outlet can be identified by the "test" and "reset" buttons located in the receptacle’s center. Typically located in a bathroom, kitchen or garage, GFCI’s interrupt the flow of electricity in high hazard areas where the potential exists for electrical shock. By design, they are quite sensitive to electrical impulses and should be first suspect in the event of power loss in bathrooms, kitchen, garage, or exterior weatherproof plugs. Should a GFCI circuit be deactivated, unplug any appliances or equipment, which may be on its circuit and push the reset button. If the GFCI trips again, after the appliances are reconnected, there may be a problem with the appliance.

Note: Receptacles in garages are not suitable for a refrigerator or freezer unless a dedicated (separate) circuit has been installed.

Smoke Detectors
Your smoke detectors are wired into the house electrical system and may include battery backup. Smoke detectors are sensitive to dust as well as smoke. Be sure to vacuum the dust off the detector at least once a year using the soft brush attachment to your vacuum.

Replace the battery once a year or immediately when the low battery "beep" signal sounds once a minute. (For best performance, use alkaline batteries as replacements.) Test your smoke detector weekly by pushing firmly on the test button until the horn sounds. This should take ten seconds. If the detector fails to test properly, have it replaced immediately.

Light Bulbs – Fluorescent Tubes
Light bulbs and fluorescent tubes are not warranted. Please check for lamp replacements before calling for service as a charge may result for our replacing burned out light bulbs.

Never replace a bulb in a light fixture with on larger than its specified wattage. An over-wattage bulb will create a fire hazard.

Always turn fixtures off when replacing bulbs to avoid the possibility of electric shock.

Fluorescent Lighting
A minimal amount of "humming" is normal for fluorescent light fixtures. (They are powered by a transformer/ballast.) Fluorescent tubes must be replaced right away when burned out to avoid ballast damage. (Black on the end of tubes is a sign of weak or burned out tube.)

Switch Controlled Receptacle
Rooms that have no overhead lights have an outlet that is tied into a switch to allow the use of a table or floor lamp. Check all outlets in each room including top and bottom receptacle before calling for service. The outlet may be located behind furniture. Sometimes these receptacles can be identified in a room by being inverted.

SHOULD YOU CARE TO MODIFY YOUR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ALWAYS CONSULT WITH A QUALIFIED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. MODIFICATIONS PERFORMED TO ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AFTER HOME DELIVERY WILL VOID YOUR ELECTRICAL WARRANTY.
